On the morning of April 1, 2022, the commencement ceremony of the major urban construction project & university town project in the central city was held. Wu Jin, secretary of the CPC Jingzhou Municipal Committee, attended the main venue event, and Zhou Zhihong, deputy secretary of the CPC Jingzhou Municipal Committee and mayor of Jingzhou, announced the commencement of construction.

It is reported that there are 178 projects in this city that start construction with a total investment of RMB 25.932 billion, including 56 projects in the central city, with a total investment of RMB 19.159 billion; and 122 projects in the county, with a total investment of RMB 6.773 billion. Covering many fields such as the expansion of key functional areas, the renovation of old residential areas, the improvement of infrastructure and the restoration of ecological environment, the projects aimed at enriching urban format, enhancing urban functions and developing urban economy.

Since the beginning of this year, Jingzhou has steadily promoted the construction of key functional areas in the central city around the goal of "striving to exceed RMB 300 billion and speeding up the pace of building Jingzhou into a regional central city in central Hubei province". As the first opening plot in the construction of key functional areas, the University Town is planned to cover a total land area of 24.8 square kilometers and a core area of 5.2 square kilometers. At present, five major projects, including the Cultural and Creative Center, the Digital Economy Innovation Center, the Academic Exchange Center, the Scientific Innovation Headquarters Center and Jingzhou Institute of Science and Technology (to be established), have been launched in an all-round way, with a total construction area of 397,000 square meters and a total investment of RMB 6 billion. In the next step, with the successive launch of the projects such as the University Town Entrepreneurship Center and the University Town Headquarters Scientific Innovation Park Project, a comprehensive dynamic town with the integrated development of higher education, scientific research, creativity, leisure and livability will be gradually built. 

Jingzhou District, Shashi District, Jingzhou Development Zone, Ji’nan Cultural Tourism Zone and Jingzhou High-tech Zone set up sub-venues for the ceremony to report by video the commencement of construction of urban construction projects in pace with the city and its counties.
